Botanical LEGO

2nd March 2024

LEGO bricks

I have recently been expanding my collection of botanical LEGO sets. Technically my first botanical LEGO set was the tree house which I got back in 2020. I think its inclusion in the botanical section of the shop is a retrospective thing. It’s one of my favourite sets and has been sitting on top of a pedestal next to my desk since I built it in May 2020. Yes, it needs dusting.

LEGO Tree House

A new-years tradition for me is to treat myself to a new LEGO set and spend new-years eve half listening to the festivities on the TV while building that new set. This year it was the Super Mario Piranha Plant. Not actually part of the botanical collection, but I think it should be. It’s a cool set, and actually fits on my desk. I’m detecting a recent trend with LEGO releasing sets for adults which are of a more reasonable size, which is good because we can then display them somewhere. I hope they keep it up.

LEGO Piranha Plant

In January I purchased the LEGO Bonsai Tree. I’ve been considering this set for years, but it never made it to the top of my shopping list, until the piranha plant caused it to jump. Besides I had a birthday coming up and…I’m an adult I don’t need an excuse. I built it last month and plonked it in front of my monitor. It added some much needed colour to that part of the desk, but there was room for more, soooo, I purchased the LEGO Succulents and today I built them.

LEGO plants

There is still room for more. I have my eye on the Tiny Plants. What I would really like to do is build a whole LEGO garden that hides/manages all the cables with a back that comes up to the height of the bottom of the monitor. I’m not sure where to start with that. I might take a look at bricklink, I think they have some design software I could play with. Don't panic, it's just an idle thought, Tinn is still my priority.
